what the freak

So last night was weird.  I made chicken taco's last night, with tomatillo dressing.   Everything turned out great and we ate dinner together.
Well, Mac went to Provo Beach with all of his buddies last night, but wanted to stay home so I could get bostyn in the bath and put in bed. Soon after he left, I got the weirdest tingling feeling in my finger tips on my right hand, which then spread to the rest of my hand. Then, It started burning!!!! I was like WTF!! What is happening. It was the most intense burn I've ever felt. I cant even explain it, it was so bad! I started taking Ibuprofen to get rid of it,  It was the worst underneath my nails.
After like an hour of it not going away, I got on the internet to figure out what it might be. Then, what caught my eye, was that someone had talked about a horrible burning sensation from cooking with peppers. Then It clicked. One of the ingredients in the dressing is a jalapeno pepper, which I've worked with many times in my life. When I was putting in in the food processor I cut it open and took out most all of the seeds before I put it in with the other stuff.  Which I always do! I just did it with my bare hands.  The seeds had touched underneath my nails and all over my hand.
I looked up pepper burn remedies and the most common one was soaking in in milk. Tried it. Did nothing. Then another suggestion was to soak in under hot water (eeek!) and let it open your pours and then wash your hands with soap. Made sense. As painful as it was a tried it and it did nothing. I then tried the olive oil method. Apparently its supposed to breakdown something in the pepper seed and then your supposed to wash it off.......nothing! I noticed that it also said that you really shouldn't touch anything....especially your private parts.... and I was like DUH! But then I quickly realized I had been with Bostyn all night giving her a bath giving her toys which she of course put in her mouth, changing her diaper, and she has a diaper rash right now and I had just put cream on it. I then kinda had a panic attack and was sooooo worried about her. She was still sleeping and didn't seem to be in pain at all. So I tried to push it out of my brain.
I called Mckay once he was done and explained to him what was happening. He laughed. Haha, I was laughing at that point too, mostly to keep from crying. I stopped at the store to get me some ice.....It was the last thing I could think to do. So when he got home we wrapped my hand up and put ice in the bandage and tried to take the heat out. All I wanted to do was watch Shark Week in peace. Mac came over and took a picture haha. The ice did help a lot and I was able to sleep last night thankfully. Wow. Such a glamorous shot of me. But lesson learned.

  2. I totally know how this feels! I do it all the time when I cook with jalapenos. You'd think I'd learn from the first time it happened
